Old main was the flagship building of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, which was then called Southern Illinois Normal Universitt. Completed in 1887, Old Main first served as the centerpiece of the college, and later housed classrooms, offices, and the university museum.
Many today still remember when Old Main burned down in a spectacular fire in 1969, but here Old Main is memorialized in watercolor and ink.
